PROFILE
There are many singers that compete with their “singing”, and may be JAY’ED is to say one of them. I suppose if one listens to his music and his vocal, with out having any information of him, including his face photo, many people who have deep comprehension to R&B would find it difficult to suppress one’s excitement at their first listen. People would want to know more about him, as a corollary, people would want to see him in person…in this manner. In fact, there is something about his live performance that takes away one’s mind and makes a flood of dopamine as dope produced in our brains. Something different from just singing. Of course, it has nothing to do with “acting” like having exaggerated actions or dancing. When as speaking softly by the ear, when as pleading something to us from far away, we can “feel” his singing because there lies the power of his singing that keeps boosting the listeners’ emotions. And once you feel that power, you can imagine his singing appearance by just listening to his record. From this, he is not just “a good singer” but he is already in the range of “an attractive artist”. Although there are some parts that are still in the rough, he certainly has an aura that makes not just girls want to fall into but also fevering boys. “Sexy” is the keyword that solves the mystery. Just as Justin Timberlake (who JAY’ED had performed on stage with before) has advocated, “Sexy Back” in his latest work, JAY’ED has also been exploring ways and practicing the same idea since quite some time ago. Not being a literal translation of the sex image of the genuine US R&B, but creatively using the Japanese and English “tongues”…that is spinning a groove with his “sense of language”, that’s what I call the core element of singer=JAY’ED’s “doctrine”. For this reason, his singing is never too loud to the ear no matter how high the volume is and there is no little bashfulness to it. The mix hybrid of New Zealand and Japan, who’s style of true value is specialized in “being sexy” has opened a new approach to the Japanese pop scene where I must say the range of love songs are still narrow (as a consequence of Japan’s unique aesthetic feeling?).
